Lately, grid power availability has become a thing of uncertainty in South Africa, and it is hurting businesses and interrupting households.
Most businesses close their doors for those dreaded two-hour slots and simply wait it out, watching their customers walk past their dark windows, losing revenue by the minute. Others will go to the back and kick start the loud, dirty diesel generators they have in the storeroom or shed. This is often unpleasant, smelly, and intrusive to the customer experience, especially in restaurants.
Thankfully, South Africa now has a silent, clean, environmentally friendly option that is available to homes and businesses that is automatic, smart, and tough as nails.
Sustainable Power Generation, a Cape Town-based company that provides sustainable energy solutions to demanding locations by using biogas or solar as fuel for power, has extended its focus from large-scale industrial and commercial gas-to-power solutions, to providing South African homes and businesses with backup power solutions.
Thanks to its partnership with PRAMAC, a world-leading Italian-American company established in 1966 that is today part of GENERAC, manufacturers of a wide range of power generated equipment, these gas standby generators are quietly getting on with it, without the splutter and bother of its diesel or petrol counterparts.
The LPG option has clear advantages for homes and small to medium businesses like restaurants who are impacted by load shedding due to its cleanliness, its simplicity and low maintenance, and the fact that many homes and restaurants will have the LPG installation already in place. Residential and commercial areas with natural gas supply enjoy an even greater benefit, as natural gas prices are significantly lower than any of the other fuel options.
“Better than diesel, and not just for commercial use,” says Ames Martin, SustainPower’s COO, “Pramac generators offer a clean and quiet alternative to the traditional diesel and petrol generators normally found. The best part is that they connect directly to the gas supply that a home or restaurant is likely already using for cooking, heating, etc.”
Says Ames, “Adding a small, quiet gas generator is a simple process. The SustainPower standby product line starts at 8kVA and goes to 500kVA. The home & small business generators use small, air-cooled engines made in the US by Generac, so the maintenance is minimal, and much cleaner than a liquid-cooled diesel engine.”
If customers and competitors start to wonder how you’re keeping the lights on this festive season, thanks to the quiet little engine that wouldn’t quit, you can just say it’s your secret.
